Molecular biology laboratory

In the molecular biology laboratory, DNA, RNA and protein investigations are performed to highlight the genetic make-up differences on animals or the effect of experimental treatments on the expression of the animals DNA.

In particular, we study:

- the distribution of natural variants of genes, in the populations considered, applying the PCR technique (Polimerase Chain Reaction)

- the different expression of genes determined in relation to the applied experimental theses, through the technique of qPCR (quantitative PCR or real-time RT-PCR). The gene expression can be analyzed in different tissues such as: muscle, adipose tissue, ruminal epithelium, milk, etc.

- the different expression of proteins examined in relation to the applied experimental theses, using the ELISA technique, SDS-PAGE and Western-Blot . Protein expression can be analyzed in different animal tissues.
