Livestock sector in suffering: few veterinary doctors

An issue that deserves attention

In an interview with Il Sole 24 Ore, Dr. Colombo, vice president of Anmvi (National Association of Italian Veterinary Doctors) raises the problem of the scarce availability of Veterinary Doctors, which concerns the university sector and the agri-food chain up to consumers.

the phenomenon would be attributable to several causes, in summary:

  • veterinary medicine students focus their studies on pets rather than farm animals
  • there is no planning with respect to production needs
  • the limited number of enrollments creates a block for students who do not have a solid general knowledge
  • there is uncertainty in the evolution of the livestock sector
  • there could be a conditioning related to pollution problems.
