From genetic editing to the treatment of infectious diseases?

Great discoveries in the field of molecular biology with potential applications also in the livestock sector

The Crispr / Cas9 system is a sort of "molecular scissors" capable of cutting and removing target DNA.
The method allows in fact to eliminate, replace or correct sequences of harmful DNA that can cause diseases.
Now, a study published in "Cell", entitled "CRISPR-Cas9 Circular Permutants as Programmable Scaffolds for Genome Modification", discusses the possibility of using the same method to treat viral infections. These results provide a more secure and efficient set of genomic modifier enzymes and molecular regulators for the advancement of precision genomic engineering in research, agriculture and biomedicine.
